"A brilliant effort, the 2014 Léoville Las Cases is a tightly wound classic that will delight purists. Mingling aromas of dark berries and cassis with hints of bitter chocolate, sweet spices, cigar wrapper, pencil shavings and sweet new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with tangy acids and a deep, firm mid-palate framed by rich, powdery tannins. Concluding with a long, penetrating finish, the only missing ingredient is time."

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

The estate of Léoville Las Cases stretches from the village of Saint-Julien as far as Château Latour. The greater part of its vineyard is the closest to the Gironde estuary of all the growths of Saint-Julien.

Since 1902, the estate has been producing a second wine "le Clos du Marquis" made from those vines outside the main enclosure.

Production : 216'000 bottles ;

Surface : 97 ha ;

Plantation density : 8'797 vines/ha;

Age of the vines : 30 years;

Second wine : Le petit lion du marquis Leoville Las Cases; 

Other wine : Clos du Marquis (since 1902);

Best vintages : 2009, 2005, 2000, 1996, 1986;

Wine variety : 65% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot, 13% cabernet franc, 3 % petit verdot.
