Henri Giraud MV13/14 Fut De Chene In Wooden Box

Tasting notes

A simply stunning blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, with a remarkable concentration stemming from 12 months ageing in Argonne oak.

"(...) the finest Champagne that I have ever tasted from Giraud is the NV Brut Grand Cru Aÿ Fût de Chêne MV13, a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay that's based on the 2013 vintage, supplemented by fully 40% older wine from a perpetual reserve. Wafting from the glass with a rich bouquet of buttered yellow orchard fruits, brioche, dried white flowers, peach, orange rind and smoke, complemented by some delicate oxidative top notes, it's full-bodied, broad and vinous, with an enveloping attack, a deep and layered core, lively acids and a long, sapid finish. The Giraud house is one of the few houses that conduct primary fermentations in oak.

The overall production is limited to 250,000 bottles a year, making the Giraud Champagne stand apart from the major producers.

Described by leading wine critic Robert Parker as "the finest Champagne house virtually no one has ever heard of". The reason for this being that until the 1990s their wines were only sold directly to discerning, well-informed private customers in France and Italy
