"The 2001 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a dense, almost opaque bouquet of raspberry, dark chocolate, smoke and tobacco scents; a little smudged at first but achieving more clarity as the wine opens in the glass. The palate is typical of Groffier’s style, with “thick” tannins rendering this Bonnes-Mares fat and voluminous in the mouth, but missing the requisite tension and the joie-de-vivre that I seek in this Grand Cru. "
