Columella 2002 - The Sadie Family

Tasting notes

"Garnet creeping in on the rim, paler than any of the other Columellas. Cherry and a softness on the nose. Somehow fragile on the nose and palate. Sweeter than the first two, delicate, soft and very very juicy. Quite explosive in the mouth. Lots and lots of pure raspberry and cherry plus a tug of tannins, like a child's hand. More ethereal. Chocolate/mocha notes and sweet baking spice. Gently lingering but certainly without the power and architecture of the other vintages. Drink soon. "

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

Eben Sadie is considered one of the great preservationists and visionaries in the new generation of South African winemakers.

The wine writer Neal Martin recently called Sadie an “outspoken, peripatetic, terroir-obsessed winemaker who has been instrumental in putting Swartland on the map. He produces a small portfolio of comparatively expensive, but highly coveted wines based on Rhone varieties sourced from his seemingly never-ending search for pockets of old bush vines and unique terroirs. These are cerebral wines built to age.”
