"The 2017 Balin is an IGT Svizzera Italiana and blends Merlot with Arinarnoa and Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in French barriques for 18 months, the wine offers a deep, warm, ripe yet fine and toasty bouquet of dark berries, herbs, alpine flowers, licorice and crushed stones. Ripe, lush and intense on the palate, this is round and fleshy but still silky and refined Merlot with good freshness. The finish is still fresh and stimulatingly salty. It's an almost hedonistic wine but with so much elegance and finesse."

"The cellar is south of Lugano and the vineyards are divided between Mendrisiotto, Luganese and la Sponda Destra in Sopraceneri. Merlot is the main grape variety, and is produced in many forms and combinations, but the estate also grows varieties which are entirely unexpected for the region, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Arinarnoa and the Petit Verdot. The Cantina Kopp wines are well-known in Tessin, and their reputation is based partly on Balin rouge, a blend of Merlot, Arinarnoa and Cabernet Sauvignon."
