Tasting notes

"As one might expect, this is a brilliant wine, but it remains shockingly young, even for the fast evolving 1990s. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a classic, nearly restrained set of aromatics that includes notions of sweet black cherries, black currants, lead pencil, and wet stones. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, and while technically low in acidity, there is a freshness, delineation, and classicism in this full-throttle, rich, concentrated, impeccable 1990. While still youthful, it is easy to appreciate despite its substantial tannins."

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

The estate of Léoville Las Cases stretches from the village of Saint-Julien as far as Château Latour. The greater part of its vineyard is the closest to the Gironde estuary of all the growths of Saint-Julien.

Since 1902, the estate has been producing a second wine "le Clos du Marquis" made from those vines outside the main enclosure.

Production : 216'000 bottles ;

Surface : 97 ha ;

Plantation density : 8'797 vines/ha;

Age of the vines : 30 years;

Second wine : Le petit lion du marquis Leoville Las Cases; 

Other wine : Clos du Marquis (since 1902);

Best vintages : 2009, 2005, 2000, 1996, 1986;

Wine variety : 65% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot, 13% cabernet franc, 3 % petit verdot.
