Tasting notes

"One of the more massive Medocs of the vintage, this opaque purple-colored wine exhibits fabulous richness and volume in the mouth. Layers of pure black-cherry and cassis fruit are intermixed with stony, mineral-like scents, as well as high quality toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, with a sweet, rich entry, this wine possesses plenty of tannin, yet fabulous extract and length. Leoville-Las-Cases is one of the half-dozen great wines of the Medoc in 1994."

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

The estate of Léoville Las Cases stretches from the village of Saint-Julien as far as Château Latour. The greater part of its vineyard is the closest to the Gironde estuary of all the growths of Saint-Julien.

Since 1902, the estate has been producing a second wine "le Clos du Marquis" made from those vines outside the main enclosure.

Production : 216'000 bottles ;

Surface : 97 ha ;

Plantation density : 8'797 vines/ha;

Age of the vines : 30 years;

Second wine : Le petit lion du marquis Leoville Las Cases; 

Other wine : Clos du Marquis (since 1902);

Best vintages : 2009, 2005, 2000, 1996, 1986;

Wine variety : 65% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot, 13% cabernet franc, 3 % petit verdot.
